Let's take an example: A German household with an 800W balcony power plant that receives 5 hours of sunlight a day can generate an average of 4 kWh of electricity per day. This results in 120 kWh per month, which, at an electricity price of 0.30 euros per kWh, means an income of 36 euros.
If the price for the balcony power plant is 400 euros and is financed over a period of two years with monthly installments of around 18 euros (including interest), this amount is largely covered by the electricity revenue. In addition, government subsidies and grants come into play, which makes the whole thing worthwhile: the monthly revenue and grants cover the installment payments, so that the customer ultimately receives the balcony power plant free of charge.
